What is it? Time-sensitive Snapchat messages, often referred to as "Snaps", are photos or videos you send to friends that are designed to disappear after a set period.
How it Works: You choose a duration (from 1 to 10 seconds, or "infinity" for photos only) before sending the Snap. The recipient can view the Snap for that specified time. Once the time expires, the Snap is generally no longer accessible.
Purpose: The core idea is to foster more spontaneous and in-the-moment communication. The ephemeral nature of "Time%20Sensitive%20Communication" removes some pressure and encourages users to share without worrying about a permanent record.
Important Feature - Screenshots: Snapchat notifies the sender if the recipient takes a screenshot of a Snap. This adds a layer of accountability and discourages users from saving content without consent.
Stories: Snapchat also has a "Stories" feature where Snaps are viewable by all your friends for 24 hours. These are also time-sensitive but differ from direct Snaps.
Saving Snaps: Snapchat allows users to save their own Snaps before sending them. Recipients can also save Snaps in a chat if both users agree.
